Dulcis est Amor

A group of friends of mine recently had a problem. They could not decide whether or not to bring along this friend to an overseas trip. Now this friend of ours was a little different. He usually had little, or if I could say, no empathy for others. He was extremely sensitive to what others said about him, but insensitive about what he said to others. Their reasoning was that if they were going to pay for a holiday, they weren’t willing to pay to be insulted, looked down upon, or to put up with an endless flow of chatter for 5 days. I thought that to be fair, we ought to let him go, and do our best to make the trip an enjoyable one for everyone.

It so happened that around that same period of time, I had been having a problem in my spiritual life. Somehow, I was not satisfied with what I believed. I kept thinking, day after day, what it meant to be a Christian, and what made us different. Oh I’m definitely sure of so many. I believe in Jesus Christ, I am a child of God,  I read the Bible, I pray, I go to church, and the list may go on and on. But all these were wrong. At least, they did not satisfy me. I could not see distinctly why I was so different just because of a difference in beliefs. So I finally decided to seek God until He gave me an answer. One which would reinstate my identity, and give me new purpose.

1 John 3:16-24
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

We are Chrisitians because of our ability to love. Our ability to love unconditionally. Just like the love Jesus had for us; His death on the cross allowed the Holy Spirit to be in us, that we may be like Christ. And the same, in love.

Then God convicted me greatly. I was to love my neighbour. and my neighbour was that friend. Everyone else could be against his going, but I knew that I could not disobey God. So I went on to try to persuade the others. The issue led me on to learn many other things, but perhaps, I would say in person and not here. But do be encouraged, and never stop loving those around you, even those who are extremely difficult to love. For those who seek righteousness amidst persecution shall inherit the Kingdom of God.

It was in God’s love that we found life, and the only way they are going to experience God’s love is through us.

Next and Over

Yay! One week of the A levels is over! It was, surprisingly, quite alright. Math paper 1 was considerably better than paper 2 though. Somehow, pure math gets to me easier than stats. Also GP was great! I saw the question and the points immediately ran through my head, complete with examples. God had assured me each day, that His hand will be in all this. And chemistry was, well quite okay too. I never really memorized anything, so some questions got me inventing.

But the next week is coming! The 2 ECONOMICS PAPERS and physics and chemistry again. There are so many things I want to think and say about it, but I guess I would leave it all to God. What can I control if my life is for Him?

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
or weighed the mountains on the scales
and the hills in a balance?
Isaiah 40:12

For the rest of you out there, keep going on!

Indeed, if the Lord, the creator of the Earth, sovereign over all things, has power over all, why do you worry?

Commit it all to Him, then go conquer in God’s peace and power

The days that have gone

It’s just two  more days to the a levels! And 1 more for a few. God has been really faithful for all that He’s done, and all that I’ve gained. At this point in time, all things rest in the hands of the Lord. Well, I suppose it always was in His hands, just that time seemed to delude me into a greater control over my life. But whatever we experience, God will be there, steadfast and unchanging, faithful till we see Him again.

And.. so all the best to the rest of you out there. Look forward to the end!
